John Krause originally launched Angeles College of Nursing in Los Angeles in 2004, responding to a growing need for qualified health professionals equipped to serve diverse communities. The school was formally incorporated in March 2004 and received operational approval from the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) the following year. Ownership transferred to Teresa Krause in 2015.
The university now describes its mission as educating aspiring professionals to serve with purpose and lead with integrity, with a community of students, faculty, and staff committed to academic excellence and meaningful change both locally and globally.
On the academic front, Angeles University offers nursing degrees and career-oriented healthcare training, including Vocational Nursing, Nurse Assistant, and Medical Assistant programs. Degree seekers can pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), an RN to BSN Bridge program, or a Master of Science in Nursing – Nursing Education, the latter having received BPPE approval in 2025.
The business side of the curriculum took shape in 2015 with the introduction of a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 2018 — an expansion designed to help graduates lead as well as care.
Accreditation is firmly in place. Angeles University received initial institutional accreditation from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) in 2009. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredits both the RN to BSN Bridge program (since 2018) and the BSN program (since 2023). The Vocational Nursing program, offered at the City of Industry campus since 2019, holds approval from the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT).
Financial aid is available to eligible students. The U.S. Department of Education certified the institution for federal student financial aid programs in 2010, and the California Student Aid Commission approved it for Cal Grant programs in 2021. Eligible programs also qualify for veteran training under Title 38 of the U.S. Code.
Geographically, the university is anchored in Glendale, with its branch campus located in the City of Industry in the San Gabriel Valley. That branch traces its origins to a Garden Grove location opened in 2011 before relocating in 2014.
Leadership at the university emphasizes real-world preparation. “Through partnerships with renowned healthcare facilities, we equip our students with the skills to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care and address the diverse needs of our communities,” the institution states.
