Saudi Investor Pays SAR 1.3 Million for Gyr Hybrid Falcon to Boost Kingdom's Breeding Sector

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA, August 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — A Gyr hybrid falcon has been purchased by Saudi Arabia’s Nova Falcons for SAR 1.3 million ($346,700) at the International Falcon Breeders Auction 2026, marking the highest price paid for any falcon at this year’s gathering.

Prince Nayef bin Sultan bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Kabeer, who serves as Chairman of Nova Falcons, stated that the acquisition represents an investment in advancing the falcon-breeding sector within Saudi Arabia.

The bird, originating from a well-established lineage, is intended for breeding purposes at Nova Falcons’ facility as the organization works to produce locally raised falcons that can hold their own on the global stage.

“At Nova Falcons, we look for exceptional bloodlines that can make a meaningful contribution to our breeding program,” Prince Nayef said. “This falcon has the qualities and pedigree we were seeking.”

Multiple breeding farms placed bids on the falcon when it became available during the auction’s seventh evening, before Nova Falcons ultimately secured the transaction.

Prince Nayef noted that its lineage, physical attributes, and reproductive promise justified the cost.

“We acquired it as a breeding male and look forward to seeing its first offspring,” he said. “We expect it to make an important contribution to falcon breeding in Saudi Arabia.”

The auction is currently underway at the National Center for Falcons’ headquarters in Malham, located north of Riyadh, and will continue through August 25. It unites falcon breeders and purchasers from Saudi Arabia and numerous other nations.

According to Prince Nayef, the event offers Saudi farms direct access to falcons from top-tier international breeders, enabling them to evaluate bloodlines and choose birds that fit their breeding objectives.

“The National Center for Falcons has established a trusted international platform that brings together breeders and falconers from around the world,” he said. “It gives local farms access to distinguished bloodlines that can support the development of Saudi breeding.”

The National Center for Falcons is chaired by Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef. It manages events and projects designed to preserve falconry traditions and grow the sector across the country.

Prince Nayef remarked that governmental backing for falconry has helped position Saudi Arabia as a worldwide hub for breeders and falconers.

Nova Falcons is focused on creating Saudi breeding lines that can excel in various falcon categories, especially Gyr falcons.

“Our goal is for Saudi-bred falcons to rank among the best internationally and for the Kingdom to become a leading source of high-quality falcons with strong bloodlines,” Prince Nayef said.
