Through a 116-kilometer pilgrimage, the international speaker challenges the notion that real success demands relentless burnout
Allow yourself the freedom to experience the journey as it happens.”— Katie Hornor
Katie Hornor, an international keynote speaker, award-winning author, and business coach, recently walked the final 116 kilometers of Spain’s Camino de Santiago with one of her daughters, collecting fresh perspectives that she now shares with leadership audiences. Learn more at Katie Hornor.
Each year, fewer than 42,000 Americans—roughly one in 8,000—complete the Camino. For Hornor, this rare trek became far more than a physical milestone. It offered a powerful backdrop for exploring how driven leaders can tackle tough challenges without compromising their well-being, relationships, or sense of fulfillment.
Setting out from Sarria, Hornor and her daughter joined 10 fellow pilgrims on the route to Santiago de Compostela. This marked Hornor’s first visit to Spain and her initial long-distance pilgrimage.
Early on, Hornor decided to take a taxi after a half-day of walking instead of pushing past her physical limits. That choice turned into a core leadership principle: changing the approach doesn’t mean giving up the goal.
The shared mother-daughter experience underscored the importance of chasing big objectives while staying fully engaged with those alongside you. Together, they handled tough trails, shifting weather, historic landmarks, and the emotional finish in Santiago. Hornor noted her greatest lesson was to "choose what matters. Make the plan. Take the first step. Then give yourself permission to experience the journey as it unfolds. Expect the unexpected and expect that you will never be the same."
Hornor has turned this adventure into a keynote designed for entrepreneurs, authors, speakers, and high-achieving leaders. The talk focuses on sustainable success, bold mid-course adjustments, meaningful connections, and distinguishing faithful persistence from needless strain.
As founder of The Flamingo Advantage and the National Christian Association of Professional Speakers, Hornor brings over 700 hours of stage experience and has authored more than 90 books.
