Former Missionary and Mother of Five Brings Unconventional Entrepreneurship Story to Leadership Audiences

Katie Hornor’s story of moving from financial hardship to global enterprise delivers a relevant message on marriage, parenting, creativity, and purposeful work

Once you know what you need to do, you just take the next right step in that direction.”— Katie Hornor

Katie Hornor, an international speaker and award-winning author, is offering a uniquely personal look at entrepreneurship for audiences who value honest discussions about family, creativity, and creating something significant in challenging circumstances.

Hornor’s entrepreneurial path started during her 18 years serving as a missionary abroad. When financial backing dried up and buying food for their household became a struggle, Hornor and her husband, Tap, tackled the situation together while raising and homeschooling five children far from any relatives.

Without outside funding, loans, or an existing professional network, Hornor started developing educational materials right at her kitchen table. That effort grew into a groundbreaking Spanish-language homeschooling curriculum and online courses that changed how Spanish-speaking families approached home-based learning.

What began as a practical answer to a personal emergency turned into a wide-ranging career in publishing, business consulting, coaching, and public speaking. Reflecting on her path, Hornor shares, "Who you are is more important that what you know. Once you know what you need to do, you just take the next right step in that direction, whether it is setting a boundary, reallocating resources, learning something new, hiring a coach, or hiring a team member. With clarity you can make it happen."

In her talks, Hornor highlights the behind-the-scenes truths of entrepreneurship that typical success stories leave out: keeping a marriage strong while launching a business, building a company around her kids’ needs, spotting underserved markets, and letting constraints spark creativity.

Now married for 23 years, Hornor and her husband have returned to the USA, where they still work side by side while raising three adult children and two teenagers. Her keynotes encourage people to rethink what success means—looking beyond profits and fame to ask whether their work truly supports the people, values, and lifestyle they care about.

Hornor offers coaching and speaks through The Flamingo Advantage, and she also founded NCAPS, the National Christian Association of Professional Speakers. With more than 90 books published, she speaks on topics like leadership, entrepreneurship, business alignment, faith, and standing out in meaningful ways.
