Falcon Sells for 1.3 Million Riyals at Riyadh Auction

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA, August 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — A falcon has been purchased for 1.3 million Saudi riyals ($346,000) during the International Falcon Breeders Auction 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, securing its place as the priciest bird sold at this year’s gathering and the second-largest transaction ever recorded at the event.

The bird, a juvenile three-quarter Gyr Super White, was acquired on the seventh evening of the auction, hosted by the National Center for Falcons at its base in Malham, located north of Riyadh.

Two falcons originating from a Canadian breeding operation were sold that night, bringing in a total of 1.45 million riyals ($387,000). The initial bird, a juvenile Pure Gyr, started at 40,000 riyals ($10,700) and ultimately went for 150,000 riyals ($40,000).

The subsequent falcon, the juvenile three-quarter Gyr, began at 200,000 riyals ($53,000) and attracted intense competition before ultimately being purchased for 1.3 million riyals.

In the prior year, the auction’s highest-selling bird was a Pure Gyr Super White from a U.S. farm, which commanded 1.2 million riyals ($320,000). The all-time record for the auction remains 1.75 million riyals ($467,000), achieved during an earlier edition for a juvenile Ultra White three-quarter Pure Gyr.

This event gathers falconers, breeders, and buyers from within Saudi Arabia and internationally, featuring participating farms from across the globe. Transactions occur via live bidding, which is televised and also streamed across the National Center for Falcons’ social media channels.

The auction continues through August 25.
