Austin Siamese Rescue, the foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and rehoming Siamese cats and their non-Siamese companions throughout Central Texas, announced today the arrival of a striking young black kitten.
The solid-black domestic shorthair kitten was brought to the rescue after being found as a stray. Veterinary evaluation confirmed the kitten has unilateral anophthalmia — the congenital complete absence of one eye. The left orbital area is smooth and fully formed without an eyeball, while the remaining right eye is large, bright, and healthy with a vivid blue iris. The condition is present from birth and does not appear to cause pain or significant impairment; the kitten navigates, plays, and interacts normally.
Staff and fosters have named the kitten Horus, after the ancient Egyptian sky god whose symbol is the protective Eye of Horus. Volunteers describe Horus as alert, curious, and already showing a bold little personality while settling into foster care. He is completing standard intake care including vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and eventual spay/neuter. Austin Siamese Rescue shared the update on X @AtxsiameseRescu:

The rescue notes that cats with unilateral anophthalmia typically adapt extremely well to indoor life and often form deep bonds with their people. Adoption applications are open via the organization’s website for families ready to welcome this special kitten.
