The NYC Metro branch of Western Specialty Contractors has wrapped up a waterproofing job at a Boston, MA office building.
Acting as the main contractor, Western resealed the entire sidewalk running along the building’s front face and placed an elastomeric joint filler between the walkway and the neighboring city-owned surface. The work was intended to form a flexible, watertight barrier at the joint and shield the area against moisture intrusion.
Just ahead of the scheduled start, Western hit an unforeseen supply hurdle: the original elastomeric system’s manufacturer could not supply the specified product because weather conditions had left its warehouse unreachable. To avoid delaying the project, Western used its relationship with a local material producer to locate and secure a suitable alternative.
The project engineer evaluated and approved the substitution, which allowed Western to pick up the material on the day of mobilization and finish the planned installation that weekend without any interruption.
“Being able to respond quickly was critical to keeping this project on schedule,” said Rob Caputo, Project Manager at Western Specialty Contractors. “Our team worked closely with the manufacturer and engineer to identify an approved solution, secure the material and complete the installation without delaying the customer’s project.”
The project started and finished in May 2026. Western completed the work on schedule and within budget, much to the satisfaction of the project team.
