Gary Torgow, Chairman of Huntington National Bank, will serve as the evening’s chair. His opening remarks, titled "The Moral Responsibility of Leadership," will set the tone for a program centered on the idea that true leadership is defined not just by accomplishments, but by stewardship, integrity, service, and a steadfast dedication to the public good.
The 2026 National Civil Rights Leadership Dinner will pay tribute to six individuals whose careers and contributions demonstrate principled guidance and remarkable service to society.

James Vincent, former President of the Providence NAACP (Rhode Island) — Guardian of Democracy and Economic Justice Award
Sarah Noet, entrepreneur and innovation leader from Seattle, Washington — Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Opportunity Award
Robert Weiner, former White House spokesman from Washington, D.C. — Conscience of Democracy Award
Gwen Swanigan, civic leader and longtime community activist from Benton Harbor, Michigan — Community Transformation Award
Samantha Woll (Posthumously), former President of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Detroit — Bridge Builder Award
Highlighting the growing national influence of both the event and The PuLSE Institute, three of this year’s award recipients will journey from different parts of the country to Detroit for the ceremony. James Vincent is coming from Rhode Island, Sarah Noet from Seattle, Washington, and Robert Weiner from Washington, D.C., which underscores the Institute’s expanding role as a national hub for leaders committed to reinforcing democracy, broadening economic prospects, and encouraging civic revitalization.
A key highlight of the night will be a special commemorative tribute to the late Rev. Dr. Bernard LaFayette Jr., a close associate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a key figure in the modern Civil Rights Movement, and the 2025 recipient of The PuLSE Institute's Global Civil Rights Leadership Award. Through a dedicated video segment taken from his appearance at last year’s dinner, attendees will be reminded that the quest for justice, reconciliation, nonviolence, and human dignity remains an unfinished duty passed on to every generation of leaders.
