During TEDxBeverlyGrove, Dr. Shelby Harris shared the account of a woman whose career is solving problems for others, yet she couldn’t solve her own sleep problem. Here’s what made the difference.
Insomnia is effort that follows us to bed. Sleep does not require more effort. It requires less interference.”— Dr. Shelby Harris, PsyD, DBSM
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA, UNITED STATES, September 24, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Dr. Shelby Harris, PsyD, DBSM, a board-certified behavioral sleep medicine specialist, has made her TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026 talk, “How We Broke Sleep Without Realizing It,” publicly available. The presentation looks at a pattern she observes often in her practice: high-achieving individuals treat sleep as a task to be fixed, and their attempts at fixing it only amplify the problem.
“Insomnia is effort that follows us to bed. Sleep does not require more effort. It requires less interference.”
— Dr. Shelby Harris, PsyD, DBSM
The talk was delivered on March 14, 2026, at the Marilyn Monroe Theatre in West Hollywood. In it, she frames chronic insomnia as a conditioned response rather than simply a biological one, referencing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, the accepted gold-standard non-drug treatment for the condition.
Now streaming as part of TEDxBeverlyGrove’s complete 2026 speaker series rollout, the talk was produced by Marvin V. Acuna.
