New collection debuts at upcoming Reno Tahoe and Los Angeles exhibitions as the artist transforms travel, reflection, and lived experience
LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, August 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — While many see a road trip as a break from routine—a chance to unwind and take in the scenery—award-winning artist Brett Cassort turned his 5,000-mile journey across six states into something far different: a mobile workspace, a wellspring of creativity, and the driving force behind a fresh body of work that will premiere at his Reno Tahoe exhibition September 17–20 before moving on to Los Angeles.
After previous showcases in Austin, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City, Cassort returns with a new collection that pushes his artistry in a daring, increasingly intimate direction. The landscapes, overlooked small towns, railroad tracks, and historical traces he discovered along America’s highways provided the spark—yielding paintings that reflect not only the locations he visited but also the internal shifts occurring within him.
“Covering all those miles from Los Angeles to Austin, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco introduced me to an incredible variety of terrain and atmosphere, but certain places left an indelible mark on this collection. The Painted Desert in Arizona, the rail lines cutting through New Mexico, and the quiet, monumental presence of Zion in Utah each carried a transcendent quality that stayed with me,” says Cassort.
This latest collection goes beyond simply documenting what Cassort saw on the road. It marks a more vulnerable phase in his creative output—one where he releases control and lets the paintings guide their own direction.
“I think the biggest shift is that I’m trying to control the process less and appreciate it more,” says Cassort. “That looseness, that honesty, that willingness to let the painting lead instead of forcing it, that’s what viewers will see in this new body of work. It’s that place where reality and imagination meet, those long miles spent navigating an emotional archaeology that doesn’t show up on a map. This is the most personal I’ve ever been on canvas.”
Two central themes anchor the collection—resilience and change—which Cassort describes as intertwined in both his life and his art.
“I’m at a point in my life where I’m acutely aware that time isn’t something you get back. The windshield is much larger than the rearview mirror for a reason, and I try to live by that,” he says.
For Cassort, the guiding principle is straightforward: keep moving forward, keep pushing boundaries, and pick growth over familiarity. That unwavering commitment to evolving, he notes, is a victory in itself.
Cassort also hopes that viewers bring their own perspectives to the pieces, rather than seeking a single prescribed meaning.
“Everyone arrives with their own history, their own questions, their own quiet weight, and the work is meant to give them space for that,” he says. “It’s less about directing them toward a specific meaning and more about creating a moment where their own internal dialogue can surface. Just knowing the work created a small opening, a breath, a recognition, is enough. That’s the connection I hope they find in these paintings: a reflection of their own life, seen through the landscape of mine.”
Cassort will showcase his work at the Reno Tahoe International Art Show, taking place September 17–20, 2026, at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada. Tickets – https://www.rtiashow.com/event-details/rtia-show-2026
