After years of keeping his fine-art landscapes and raw abstract expressions entirely separate, Brett Cassort bridges the gap into a striking new reality
Contemporary artist Brett Cassort is reaching a significant milestone in his artistic development, adopting a method that unites two approaches that were once completely separate. His newest creations combine the disciplined, skill‑based realism of his landscape work with the untamed, impulsive force of his abstract expressionism, enabling both to exist within one cohesive visual vocabulary.
"For years, those two worlds stayed separate, like two separate versions of myself," Cassort says. "Then came the shift. There was a moment when I realized the abstract world and the realistic landscape world didn’t need to stay divided. They could collide, inform each other, and merge into something truer, something that looked more like the person I had become."
The resulting pieces were conceived entirely from behind the steering wheel while journeying thousands of miles across American highways. Fusing the concrete experience of the open road with the visceral emotion of the imagination, the work presents a compelling blended reality. Using both conventional brushes and unconventional artistic implements, tangible horizons and sweeping skies interlock with textured, intuitive abstract marks. It conveys the sensation of discovering oneself while traveling through those surroundings.
For Cassort, staying genuine is the main motivation behind his present work. Creating pieces that reflect his actual lived experiences lets his art develop as organically as he does.
"My new work is different and creative, and the response has been fascinating," Cassort says. "I think people are looking for something fresh and unique, and this evolution gives art lovers just that. My latest work is a blend of styles, offering something resonant for everyone."
This renewed inspiration has brought 23 new works into his collection this year. Cassort breaks away from the conventional rules of landscape painting. By pouring untamed abstract emotion onto classical frameworks, he disrupts the predictable expectations of a gallery display.
He adds, "The result is a high-octane visual experience that forces my work into a bold new frontier, proving that the most powerful landscapes aren't just seen, they are felt."
