The Kansas City Roofing branch of Western Specialty Contractors has finished a roofing retrofit project at an industrial facility located in Kansas City, MO.
Acting as the primary contractor, Western installed a TPO retrofit roofing system atop the existing standing seam metal roof of the building. This approach avoided the need for a costly full roof replacement while delivering long-term weather protection and enhanced energy efficiency.
To ready the roof for the new membrane, Western placed expanded polystyrene (EPS) flute fill between the ribs of the original metal roof, then added 1.5-inch polyisocyanurate insulation to boost thermal performance and create a smooth surface. The work concluded with the installation of an Elevate 60-mil TPO membrane, backed by a 20-year manufacturer warranty, along with new sheet-metal flashings to finish the roofing system.
“Retrofit roofing systems give building owners an efficient way to extend the life of an existing roof, improve energy efficiency, and minimize operational disruptions,” said Tristan Smith, Project Manager at Western Specialty Contractors. “Our team was able to deliver a durable roofing system that will provide long-term performance without the expense and downtime of a full roof replacement.”
The project started in December 2025 and wrapped up in January 2026. Western completed the work on schedule and within budget, meeting the customer’s expectations.
