The Agency is attending the session alongside State Parties and leading specialists in the fields of natural and cultural heritage.
This year’s session holds special significance for the Agency, as the World Heritage Committee is reviewing the nomination proposal for Wadi Wurayah, located in the Emirate of Fujairah, for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This nomination highlights the protected area’s remarkable environmental and cultural importance, as well as its exceptional biodiversity and geological value on both regional and international scales.
During the session, the Agency’s delegation will take part in the accompanying meetings and discussions, underscoring the UAE’s dedication to preserving natural heritage and environmental conservation areas. The delegation is drawing attention to the ecological significance of Wadi Wurayah, which spans 220 square kilometers and is home to 1,099 species of plants and animals. In 2018, Wadi Wurayah was designated as part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme.
