Put yourself in spaces where you can be inspired. Put yourself in spaces where you got to celebrate other people’s wins.”— Ernest Owens

The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Community College of Philadelphia.

This panel is set for 11 a.m. to noon within the convention’s Journalism/Media Creative Track. It will explore how journalists and media professionals can leverage their storytelling and reporting expertise to build careers outside conventional corporate media environments.

Joining Livingston will be
Kalia Nicole Baker, Director of Communications for the Philadelphia City Commissioners;
William Griggs IV, founder of IV Creative Concepts;
and Gregory Wright, owner and lead photographer of Wright Eye Visuals LLC.

The discussion will be moderated by Kyron Ryals, Chief Creative Officer of DVS&Co.

Livingston, a visual artist, designer, creative director, and entrepreneur based in Philadelphia, launched Creative Repute in 2017 and grew it into a multidisciplinary creative agency offering branding, graphic design, web design and development, video, marketing, public relations, and digital strategy. Through Nile Livingston, LLC, they also maintain an independent visual art practice.

Their career illustrates how storytelling can span various fields. Livingston has applied visual communication to client projects, entrepreneurship, public art, and community initiatives across Philadelphia.

The panel members each contribute distinct viewpoints on applying media skills beyond typical newsroom settings.

Baker, an Emmy Award‑winning journalist with over 13 years of experience in broadcast and multiplatform storytelling, was recently named PABJ’s 2026 Emerging Media Professional of the Year.

Griggs built a career in television and production prior to establishing his own Philadelphia video production company.

Wright offers the perspective of an independent photographer and visual storyteller.

The convention is organized by the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists, under the leadership of President Ernest Owens—an award‑winning journalist, author, professor, and media entrepreneur. Owens will also take part in the convention’s opening fireside career chat on Saturday.

PABJ’s Emerging Media Diversity Convention aims to train, mentor, and connect diverse journalists and media professionals. The two‑day schedule begins Friday, October 2, with a welcome reception and continues Saturday with workshops, professional development, networking, and a media job fair and career expo.
